A Bad Mattress Can Damage a Lot More Than Your Sleep- Here’s Why

When most people hear about mattresses that are either cheap or have outlived their prime usefulness, they think of poor sleep and maybe even back pain. But honestly, a bad mattress can do a lot worse than just that, and most of these things are factors most people won’t ever consider. Here’s how detrimental a bad mattress can truly be.

Allergies

This is a big one for many people. Sure, the vast population won’t have much of a problem with dust mites. However, for mattresses that are over ten years old, they’re a major issue for people who find themselves annoyed by them.

There are things you can buy to ease the problem, such as bamboo sheets and hypoallergenic pillowcases and mattress protectors. But honestly, if the problem is getting to be that bad, a new mattress might be in order.

Stress Increase

A good night’s sleep is crucial for essential day-to-day function and if you find that you’re having a harder time de-stressing than normal, your old mattress could be to blame. If your sleep quality is suffering, you could see this added stress more and more frequently as the days go by and it’ll only get worse if your sleep quality doesn’t improve.

Immune System

Yes, sleep even maintains your immune system which protects you from sickness. This really helps to boil down just how vital proper sleep is. If your old, decrepit and worn-out mattress is affecting how well you sleep, then you can expect to possibly see quite a few more times of bedridden illness in the next few months.

Better sleep equals a healthier, stronger immune system which means less chicken soup and orange juice for you. (Unless you just like eating the stuff, in which case, have at it.)

Memory and Cognitive Failure

What’s that? You had a dental appointment in town for real? It was three hours ago? Well shoot, if you’d been getting high-quality sleep at night, you probably wouldn’t have forgotten about it. Believe it or not, bad sleep can even affect your memory and ability to concentrate and focus. This will eventually lead to more mistakes at work and more instances of forgetting simple things during the day, such as appointments, events, or even dates.

Poor Quality Mattress

You might have invested everything in the bedding on your mattress; a weighted blanket, cotton sheets, pillowcases, and the works. But did you also invest in a good mattress as well? In this market, you truly get what you pay for.

High-quality mattresses are expensive, so many people opt for bargains, which can actually wind up hurting them, physically and emotionally. Good ones, such as memory foam and the latex mattress are pricey, sure, but they’re ultimately a wonderful investment for your proper future in sleep trade.

Conclusion

A good mattress can make all the difference toward how well you sleep and how it affects you during the day. Don’t take the easy way out with a mattress; learn when it’s time to replace them and do it ASAP for your own good.
